Minutes

  • Kent will contact Pavel to inquire about his conclusion on our Neutron analysis
  • Lorenzo have done a radiation at the hall entrance and at the wall and compared with RADCONN work. Results seemed to agree with RADCONN conclusions on PREX. Need to find a link to this analysis
  • Put a detector at the spectrometer enclosure newly implemented by Lorenzo and do a comparison between PREX-I and PREX-II: Rakitha and Lorenzo will coordinate the analysis
  • We need to get the status update from Engineering about,
    • Collimator heat and cooling analysis that we have requested and Alan mentioned during the collaboration meeting. He mentioned about need to have 2-3 week of work and we may have to officially request this. see Alan's Talk
      • We need to make sure our new design can be build
    • Plastic Shielding inside the vacuum, Engineering raised following issues,
      • Outgassing and other mechanical issue of plastic in vacuum, concerned from target group about putting additional materials in the Scattering Chamber (SC), how to build the plastic shielding inside the SC (Do it before placing SC in the pivot or after, etc.. )
      • Will the 3W of heat on the plastic an issue?
        • Simple estimate of the lifetime for Plastic shielding,
          • Based on radiation limit on plastic of 5 x 10^8 rad and photon power deposited on plastic of 3 W at 100 uA (see elog-2940), the gamma tolerance is about 193 days per kg
    • Septum magnetic field shielding -> Adding additional 30 cm on either side of the septum
      • Shielding design will require additional work that need PREX collaboration request.
      • If we can get a TOSCA model from Paul Brindza, for the septum magnetic field, Juliette can help with design of the shielding. Coordinate Juliette, Paul Brindza, and Alan
    • Use of water for shielding? implement a water vessel inside the vacuum?
      • Is this to replace some plastic shielding with water?
  • Implications of new beam dump design (a diaphram designed to catch beam excursions and protect the dump may produce more background from small-angle elastically scattered electrons) - Bob
  • septum coil repair plan - Bob
  • We are planning to meet during PAVI14 to discuss some of these outstanding issues mentioned above

  • We need to have an estimate of how much coulombs used for PREX-I data and an estimate for PREX-II to determine effectively how much more beam time we will use.
  • Have a optic calibration run plan (discussed in 01/16/2014 meeting)
  • It would be nice to have real-time viewer for optics studies in commissioning (disussed in 01/16/2014 meeting)
